Calibrated, p-atti mode, took off increased altitude but drone started moving on its own. Increased height so it wouldn't crash into building and it still kept moving until it was out of sight. Last known location seems to be in someone's backyard but still can't retrieve it.....what do I do?!??

To speed up getting help from other forum members I suggest you upload your flight log to http://www.phantomhelp.com/LogViewer/Upload/ and provide a link to the log file on this thread
I doubt anyone will be able to provide any useful assistance without it.

Wow, compass errors right from the start, no GPS hold.
Easy to say in hindsight, and this isn't a criticism - but you must respond to the errors on screen and act accordingly. In this case, you should have immediately landed and not taken off until you had sufficient satellites and a working compass.

You were in Atti mode, so no GPS hold. Any wind will blow it away

I have never taken off without having GPS connect to a minimum dozen satellites or more. Usually 16-18 is normal.

Taking off with only 5 or 6 connected, seems a bit premature.
Shouldn't matter what part of the globe you are situated.

The log you posted shows you were at maximum altitude, there are different winds up that high than what you might feel on the ground.

DJI will not replace your P3S judging by the data, area and possible interference that you chose to fly in. It was bad judgement not only to fly with compass errors, but also the area you chose to fly in.

Look at buying a Marco Polo RC tracker next time. I have one and never fly without in on. I had a P2V+ fly away but that was my fault.

My gf took it out just before I did and she didn't tell me until after my incident she had a similar problem. She tried to fly it and it fell then she flew it again and it took off on her. She was able to get it back but she didn't tell me specifically what happened until I told her what happened....I'm thinking maybe when it fell that time it knocked something out of whack...had I known i probably wouldn't have flown it

I'm sorry if this offends you, but you made so many errors in judgement in that flight that it is a wonder it got out of sight even. You were flying in ATTI mode, that means fully manual, and that requires skill to do correctly. Have you practised flying manually?

I've flown it everyday since I got it for Xmas. I've even flown it where I work on a bridge with metal all around me and hadnt had a problem. I know I probably shouldn't have taken it up but I guess I messed up

Sorry but your Phantom didn't fly away
It's just another of the many "flyaways" that are entirely due to operator error.

It looks like you chose a very bad location to fly your Phantom.
It's a virtual canyon surrounded by 3 and 4 storey buildings which means that you would only have line of sight and R/C control for a small area directly overhead (unless you fly very high).
You have screwed up the compass by calibrating in an inappropriate area - probably on a reinforced concrete sidewalk?
Your app is shouting Compass Error right from the start of the flight.
As a result the Phantom has conflicting data from teh GPS and compass and ignores the GPS as it's way of dealing with the conflict.
This leaves your Phantom in atti mode with no GPS position hold and it can drift on the wind.
You lose sight of it behind buildings after only 25 seconds at 164 ft altitude and the flight record ends.
If the compass had not been screwed up, the Phantom would have returned to 3 seconds after losing signal.

Thanks Labroides for the clear explanation....guess I thought I'd be ok with handing it but bad judgment on my part....I've flown it from that location before with no issues and assumed it'd be the same...thanks for all your help guys

well...that sucks.  Sorry about that.  When you (hopefully) get the drone back, make sure you read the instructions and check out this forum.  As a newbie flyer, I stay in GPS mode only.  If the GPS signal is not strong enough to fly the drone - then I won't fly because I don't feel confident enough to make quick changes if needed in an emergency.  Also, make sure you understand the RTH function.  In GPS mode - the RTH function will save your behind.

DJI wont do anything about it since it wasn't updated to the newest firmware (I honestly wouldn't update to the newest firmware if you get another one, too many bugs in the newest firmware). They may fix it for you if you can get it back, but it all depends on the damage done to it.

This has nothing to do with firmware.
It would have happened with any firmware.

Unfortunately if you choose to fly with a screwed up compass the only thing that Is going to save the bird is piloting skill on the sticks. All of the automated functions will be offline, which puts you at the mercy of the wind and no RTH to save your butt once it loses signal.
The scariest place to be is beyond VLOS with compass errors and your iPhone or Android device freezes / reboots/ shutsdown

updates are NOT mandatory typically!

dji will warranty if the phantom actually is shown to fail in the flight logs.

even DJI will suggest a fw revert to prior version when trouble shooting issues..

good luck and have fun flying!

He doesn't need a lecture, he already lost his drone why add insult to injury. You might be able to find the drone. Make fliers and offer a reward. Next time you fly take off slowly. If you get any gps errors land and recalibrate. I have made every mistake in the book, and I am just lucky I never lost my drone. Good luck.

Are you sure you did not lose connection to the aircraft? It is likely that those tall buildings could've caused interference between the aircraft and the remote controller. Wind could have played a factor in the drone flyaway. When in ATTI mode, your aircraft does not use GPS assisted hover and it is likely that the wind could have caused the aircraft to flyaway.
