Howdy!

I'm interested in hearing what the maximum distance (real world) examples are? - I do not mean maximum round trip, i mean maximum from transmitter.
I know we are limited to 20db( as aposed to 26db in the USA ), and specs indicate a max of 2.5miles, but whats the furthest you have managed?

My personal "best" before feeling the need to return home is just over 1000m.


Lets just leave the negative comments and regulation police away from comments for now ... I'm not enciting that people fly beyond their line of sight etc etc ... just gimmie the facts

I live in Norway, and have not had a chance to do a long distance flight. Lots of rain and wind at the moment. Max so far is only 500m.
I am also interested in what distance other Europeans are getting.
Will be testing flying out of LOS, (close by, behind trees etc.) to see how well that works.

1266 meters, through trees so far. No disconnects just weak image messages.

I managed 3 kilometers. But that was with strong interference.

2540m, dropped from 4 bars to none suddenly.

3280m, 3-4 bars. Again dropping to none suddenly.

Wow, thats not bad though ... it's getting near to the quoted spec for CE.

How high were you at the time?

It should do better than 3km surely. I've had my P3 pro out over 3 miles with a windsurfer on the RC, with full signal on RC and HD feed all the way. Be interesting to see how a windsurfer affects the Mavic's range.

I saw a guy testing one for the mavic on youtube and it made his signal worse if anything ... he possibly had a badly made one though.

160m because of hill in between. I guess 4km was doable with more altitude but don't want to get in the way of vfr traffic. Some villages and big antennas around, had hd view constantly. The live feed is much more stable than the rc signal at range. Along the coast or over open water 4km+ i guess. Still wish for the FCC capabilities though..

Id be amazed if anyone pushes the mavic over 3 miles with windsurfers over CE area.

Well the maximum quoted range of the P3 Pro in FCC mode is 3 miles. I managed that easily in CE mode so in interference free conditions I don't see why the Mavic will struggle to make the same range.

I'd say try it!! It will RTH hopefully when out of range..

Just made it 10492 feet (1.97) miles before the RC signal cut to nothing suddenly.

Windsurfer should arrive today so plan on making a comparison flight from the same area as soon as possible

With windsurfer, 10761 feet before the wind became too much to bear and snow started so I decided to come home. At that distance HD and RC signal were still full strength which is quite encouraging.

Nice work Watty. Can you share a link to the windsurfers you use? ... 2 miles is as far as i think i'd dare anyway

Did you experience any dropouts of RC or HD at all?

No nothing , was very stable all the way there and back

Great job! Please take it on the same route/altitude with the windsurfers! Strange isn't it? Dropping from good signal to nothing.

D'oh!!!!

A new day, a new range test. 15,179 feet this time with 4 out of 5 signal on RC and HD. Could've gone further, this thing is a BEAST!

Sweeet! still with windsurfers? I see it's a nice and open area. it definitely helps I guess.

Yup. Windsurfing away nicely. Had a couple of signal drops along the way but only momentarily and signal was back again a second or two later. Even though I got the 'weak transmission' signal, the video feed was still perfect.

As a side note, I put my phone on aeroplane mode just in case wifi from the phone was going to interfere with anything. Not sure if it helped with extending range but it made a massive difference with battery drain. A fifteen minute flight which only drained the phone battery 6 percent.

Long distance by some, wonderful footage by others....just need atti, then Mavic will be the perfect.

I managed 2810m on saturday and chickened out ... i had full signal all the way though, 1.7Miles !!

I cant really see me wanting to push it further, but i've said that before

Your Mavic can probably achieve double that
