Only modifications I had were a windsurfer. Simple $13.00 one off of Amazon. Flew near an old radio tower, don't know if it's still active. Had around an altitude of 700 feet, at about mile and half out. Trees and some open land. Pretty good, isn't. Did not think the standard could go so far with just a windsurfer, but I'm so happy to know I got the range I did. Usually get around 3,000 to 4,000 feet in a dense suburban housing area.

The legal height in the US is 400 feet. I wouldn't boast about. I question your distance.

Was wondering how long it would take someone to mention the altitude thing. It didn't take long, first reply.

Get a Healthy Drones account, it's free. So you can upload the flight, and share the link here to prove to the naysayers about the distance you got. Don't worry about the altitude thing, their not going to hunt you down despite what some may have you believe.

As you can see, for all the people doubting, I got about 10000 feet either way. So about a total of 24000 feet. I know it's hard to believe with the standard, but I did get the range, and I only had an aluminum windsurfer on. Crazy though, as I thought I would not get that range. Maybe after the update, DJI did something.

As for the height, I just did a test. I usually  fly around 100 to 200 feet, so don't worry, I'm not going to get caught in air traffic or something. I never went that high anyways before

That screen shot doesn't show your distance, just total distance traveled. I believe you, but that's not really proof. Easiest thing to to open up a Healthy Drones account (free), upload the flight log on your device. Then they have a nice way to share the info with others, without giving any personal info.

Why do people keep saying its only 400ft ...Its not and clearly anyone that is a professional or does Aerial photography can go up to 1400 ft with object in site and no clouds with a few restrictions like airports and runway locations....  SMH

They are saying this as a law within the United States for recreational users.  107 is not given when you buy a UAS

No, that is NOT what it says. It was giving an example that if an POI was 1000' tall you could fly to 1400' because you would be 400' above that object. You are still only at 400' above the ground or an object. It didn't say you can just go around flying at 1400'.

Here's the line "• You can now fly up to 400 feet above the object you are filming. If a tower is 1,000 feet tall, you can fly your UAV up to 1400 feet to film it as long as you are 500 feet below the clouds and within visual line of sight of the UAV."

I use my Phantom for scouting land, so not really just fun. It's certainly a great asset.

For commercial flight, not recreational.

What does mean "I just did a test" ? Seems that You are very not responsible person. Did You get all of permissions and own UAVO licence? I doubt... Have in mind that many of "just tests" have finished in very bad way.

What the heck! All drone pilots know to keep their drones within VLOS, and some of you pilots out there pull off these idiotic feats of distance, that are not practically safe! Just because you can go 5,10,15,20,000 ft out in the wide open, doesnt mean you should! I've seen a lot of drone pilots get a citation for flying out of VLOS, well, to be clear on this matter, what happens if your out flying, and your drone is flying beyond visual line of sight, and the motor cuts out? What then? Hmm?
What idiotic person flys a drone too far away from the controller? I seriously hate those people that fly way beyond VLOS, because your breaking the law by doing that! Those people who do that should get a citation, and a hefty one at that!

Please let other drone pilots know this, FLYING OUT OF LINE OF SIGHT IS ILLEGAL AND DANGEROUS,  WHY DO PEOPLE HAVE TO BRAG ABOUT HOW FAR THEY WENT WITH A DRONE! I HOPE FOR THE SAKE OF FLYING, DRONE PILOTS DO NOT BREAK THE LAW!!
