Is this something normal? ExFAT allows files bigger than 4 Gb, yet my footage is broken down into 4Gb files. Card is ExFAT formatted by drone.

They always split it in 4Gb chunks, regardless if the card file system supports bigger files or not. Explanation there is something about the processor, which to me as a computer engineer does not make too much sense but who knows... Maybe it's a 32-bit processor inside so cannot address more. Thing is, Fat32 or ExFAT, does not matter, it will be split anyways in 4Gb files and we will loose some frames when this happens, so a perfect stitch back is not possible... We need to know this and plan for it accordingly.

wow that sucks, so we can't do one long continuous video? your saying that the multiple 4GB files wouldn't join together seamlessly?

This is correct, but it does not have anything to do with the processor really, it is just a convention. You will find many action cameras and also larger cameras do this, even the GoPro does it, but in the case of the GoPro, the files do not have any missing frames.

No, we can't - on both questions. Try it.

Missing frames between 4Gb files was an issue with my Phantom 3 Pro but it has been fixed with the Mavic Pro and Phantom 4 Prop Plus.

I've done recordings on my Sony actioncamera where I filled a 64GB SD card with one single video in one take. Granted I think that was on Sony's own proprietary file format, but I'm not sure it was actually needed. But anyways +4GB files on a SD card can be done.

Canon 5D IV and 1Dx II can do up to 29.59 min in a single file on ExFAT ca. 108 GB at 30p and 174 GB at 60p single file!
