The problem with oncoming air trafic is they aren't going to see your drones stock LED's as they point primarily downward. And are not very bright.
They work great for us, particularly at night, as we are below them.

I agree hat a good visibility to manned  aicrafts is of paramount importance, but it should be US to see them first and start avoidance manoeuvers... (at least in the danish rules drones are the ones to give way to all other aicrafts).

Problem is I can get the gels but not the Lighthouse cage.

Why aren't the Lighthouse cages available?

Doesn't Lume Cube Corp. ship to France?

That seems like an extreme alternative.
Are you that much closer to France than America?

Over here, we aren't allowed to fly near airports, and must comply with a 400' height rule of elevation..

But I know that our local gendarmes are known to have been seen flying the helicopter with the blinking red light, at lower elevations.

I hope they don't take me out of the air... Ha

It's just damned good product. Goes great with a DJI drone. Hand in arm.
They didn't design those Lume Cube ~  DJI drone mounts, by accident.

Strobon Cree
Very bright strobes.Available in red, green and white, so can be used as navigation lights, sort of...I have the white one on the front so I can see when the drone is facing towards me.
The red one on the left rear leg and the green on the right rear leg, both pointing to the sides and backwards a bit.

the reasons for navigation lights on airplnes or ships are the same: they should gif informations where the vessel is, what course it is moving.  the last is quite important for the design and alighment of the navigation lamps. it is not enough to make some red, green and whit lamps somewhere. the light need be controld in SECTORS. that is the most importand. i belive there some LED systems for RC planes like that. the strobe lights are called Anti-collision- lights.  just with them, you cant identify the relative alighment to the person who is watching. just the navigaton lights can do.  there are good samples in wikipedia.  it would be a good thing to change the inbuild lamps of drones to navigation lamps regarding FAA.  I hope the FAA will do some actions in that way soon.

Signal lights in the rear would be good, when turning a corner. Haha

No wonder I prefer flying at a private RC helicopter field, or in the abandoned airport-airplane hangar...

There are no restrictions, if you play on private property.

But my Lume Cubes shine brightly. ;-)

Are the built in lights not enough for the faa?

FAA - night operations require 1) a waiver and 2) UAS equipped with  anti-collision running lights with 3 SM visibility

You really need to qualify the question first.  Is the flight 107?  Or 101?  If it's 107, then you're correct.  If it's 101, you just need to keep it close.

This is the current LAW under the FAA Part 107 regulations in the U.S.:

§ 107.29 Daylight operation.
Link to an amendment published at 86 FR 4382, Jan. 15, 2021.
This amendment delayed until Apr. 21, 2021 at 86 FR 13630, Mar. 10, 2021.
Link to a correction published at 86 FR 13631, Mar. 10, 2021.
(a) No person may operate a small unmanned aircraft system during night.

(b) No person may operate a small unmanned aircraft system during periods of civil twilight unless the small unmanned aircraft has lighted anti-collision lighting visible for at least 3 statute miles. The remote pilot in command may reduce the intensity of the anti-collision lighting if he or she determines that, because of operating conditions, it would be in the interest of safety to do so.

(c) For purposes of paragraph (b) of this section, civil twilight refers to the following:

(1) Except for Alaska, a period of time that begins 30 minutes before official sunrise and ends at official sunrise;

(2) Except for Alaska, a period of time that begins at official sunset and ends 30 minutes after official sunset; and

(3) In Alaska, the period of civil twilight as defined in the Air Almanac.

In the world of "manned" aircraft, the anti-collision lighting is a white, non-directional strobe.  Many of the above-mentioned options clearly don't meet the criteria for visibility of 3 statute miles.

I believe that most pilots of "manned" aircraft would prefer a white strobe mounted on the TOP of the drone as the best option for anti-collisiion lighting.

I have the little Strobons with L-shaped holders that hold two strobes and easily snap onto the legs of the Phantom 4. Haven't flown with them yet - waiting for the FAA to get their act together for training and testing. But the little suckers are BRIGHT!

I use the strobons too.  They are rated for 3 miles which would mean they're adequate for FAA needs.  Very light.  I stick mine on with velcro.
