I have seen a lot of posts to cut your gimbal hood and paint it to make a sunshade. But I have not seen any reviews on which it works or not? If you have made or bought the sunshade for the gimbal can you please review below?

I'd say a definite improvement to picture quality.

I've also seen some people 3D printing sun hoods you may be able to by some online. I think that would be a better solution than cutting up your current one. Also it could call off or reduce air flow to your mavic's heat sink causing over heating and potential flight malfunction. Just somethings to think about.
