You have to use tap to focus, although if you're using the newer DJI Go 4 app, it will auto centre focus for you from time to time (typically when the Mavic stops moving).

I took a bunch of pics, mostly blurred somewhat. Do I have to wait longer for the app the adjust

Tap on the screen where you want the image to be in focus. I focus way in the distance then select MF (manual focus) to lock it.
Are you able to resize the square box or do you have to maneuver the aircraft to fill in box, then use manual focus

Would this be for the DJI 4 app, that's what I am on

Normally wouldn't you want the entire frame area to be in focus, if that's not the case, I would think you would want everything in front in focus. Shame you can't resize the green square and lock it. I will try locking to manual after it auto focus, then should it stay completely in focus if it's directly centered in front of me.
Something that helps me with focus is I use the programmable buttons on the back to center focus it just makes it easier than touching the screen. I like keeping my hands on the remote as much as possible.

So anything in the green square will be in focus and never nothing around it. I guess maybe need to concentrate on the center of screen and pay more attention to location of the focusing point. I don't know if I should let it focus itself or tap to focus.

There is a difference if you are on iOS or Android. Everything about focus in the current version of DJI Go 4.0 can be read at Mavic Pro Focusing Clarification - Comment #2

Does the auto focus without tapping only work in flight?
