Hello, always happy to meet a fellow pilot.  I am an admin of the Chicago RC Club on Facebook www.facebook.com/groups/ChicagoRC/  and there is also a meetup group https://www.meetup.com/Chicago-Area-Drone-User-Group/  We have outings pretty often and it's a great opportunity to meet other pilots, get advice and fly.

Almost forgot.  Most fields require AMA membership so I would recommend joining.
