The X5S is shipped with a reasonable 15mm lens which i find is a reasonable "standard" lens for everyday videos etc...
Now the qustions is what other should i add to extend the range ?

I like the Panasonic 14-42 / 3.5-56 HD on the specification and has good reviews on a terestial based camera. Any comments on its abilities on the drone?

Second question ..

If i have both of the above in my case what other lens are worth adding and why?

Most of my videos / photos are simple aerial landscapes / sites of interest.

Any opions on the LAOWA 7.5mm f2 MFT i saw a good review when used on an I2?

Subscribed...I'm also looking for lens options along with what's needed for balancing.  Seems like every thread I read whether here or on another forum I can't seem to get a consistent answer.

I mentioned on another thread of yours that DJI Ranen made a lens comparison thread when the X5 first came out for the Inspire 1. If you're new to these DSLR lenses, this may give you a decent start:

I use 15, 25 & 45mm Olympus lenses, might look to ad a wider lens next.
Used to have the 14-42 Olympus but did not really like it, great to have zoom but fixed lenses is better for my use.

I have the Oly 12mm/ 25mm/ and 45mm... between those 3, you have everything covered. I will agree the 12mm is a bit expensive, but its a nice piece of glass.

Jamie, can you give me some information on something? Why is the EZ version of lenses "not supported" on the X5s? If I was to get one, get it properly balanced, would it work? or is the electronic control removed from the X5s?
Thanks in advance!

OP, it's not a matter of "which lens should you buy?" the question is "which lenses do you need?"
You're not giving us any indication of the type of work you're looking to do and in what circumstances it will happen.

Just as with a terrestrial camera, lens choice on your UAV is entirely driven by the desired outcome, i.e. what your customer will pay for.

I recently got an Olympus 17 mm and love it. Basically $200 less than the 12mm and not much narrower. I also have the 12mm which I am considering selling as I think the 17 shows better detail and opens a bit wider also. F1.8 vs F2.0.

Could you happen to specify which lens you are referring to?

like the Olympus electric zoom lens that was supported by the x5 and the x5r:
https://www.amazon.com/Olympus-1 ... rds=olympus+ez+lens

is there a particular reason we cant use them on the X5s?

That lens is supported, but not recommended. I believe it's mostly due to how finicky that it could be to balance, but some have used this particular lens before.

On this topic - I'd like to have a wider (than 15mm X2 Crop = 30mm) lens.  Any suggestions?

In the X5S box is a rubber band / strip...  What / how is this used?

So there are 2 options (availbe right now, with 2 others coming down the road) the oly 12mm (24mm after crop) and the oly 9-18mm (18mm at the wide end, but only f/4)
that is the dust "blocker" it goes around the 15mm lens (where the aperture ring is) to keep it nice and clean. Guessing its not dust proof? I dont think any of the DJI approved lenses are dust proof, so its a nice thing to have.

OK - that clears the rubber up.  There is talk of "balancing rings"  What are these?  To do what?

Every lens you mount to the X5s (or any camera/ gimbal) needs to be balanced. you want to balance everything for 2 reasons, accurate control, and longevity of the gimbal motors.  most of the time, mounting a ND filter is good (but they all do range in weights tho). For photos, I use step up rings. they are very light and the more you add, it acts as a sun shade

Thanks!  How do I balance the X5S?  On my Sony I use small weights on the gimbal mounting plate till I get the correct balance...  but how on the X5S?

here is a vid, looks like it should have some good info ( cant hear it, at work)
either you buy the balance rings DJI sells for each approved lens, or go the route I went with and get step up rings. i just keep adding more rings till its balanced.
