Several attempts to install from ITunes resulted in an error "The app "DJI Pilot" was not installed on the iPad XXX because it is not compatible with this iPad.

A work-a-round is to close iTunes and install the *.IPA app directly using iFunbox application.  This worked for me.

You can find it on DJI's Download page. I haven't tried it yet but have not heard any issues either.

In all likely hood bob is trying to install the dji pilot on an older iPad model that isn't compatible with the software. you can force it to run using funbox, but the app may be very laggy/slugish. I would not recommend going that route.

I have an iPad 2 wifi + 3G has iOS and it will not let me download the App. Not sure why this happening?

Because an iPad 2 is too old to run the app. You need a newer iPad..   iPad 2= old iPad  iPad Air 2= newest iPad
