I have heard rumors that countries that do not allow the 5ghz mavic frequency will sell a special 2.4ghz version only. Is this true?

I presume you're speaking of the RC frequency.  I don't know, but I presume that to be true.  I'm guessing it's already  built into the controller and  Mavik and automatically switches based on GPS location.  

Sometimes DJI does some clever things that actually work.

Yes - You have it!

The Mavic only operates on 2.4ghz .

What makes you think it has anything else? There is no 5.8ghz capability on the Mavic.

Yes 2.4 only P4P can use both..

Interestingly the FCC documents do cover 5GHz as well as 2.4GHz.  Where the confusion is I believe is that when using the RC to control it is only 2.4GHz but when using wifi it can use both 2.4GHz and 5GHz as far as I can see.

Yhadar, listen to the posts above.
The Mavic transmitter uses 2.4ghz for control AND video.
If you use your phone as the controller, you can set 2.4 or 5ghz WIFI for the connection, this is a very low power setting giving only a few metres range.

Hi,
I'm located in Europe, and in my country re-seller said that he will sale 2.4  version factory locked. I have sent email to Dji support regarding this information
