Hello,
I was wondering if the Phamtom 3 Standard can fly over water safely? What are some tips, that someone could do with the phamtom to fly over water? There is no VPS(Vison Pisisoning System) so it wont get confused at the height of water.

Fly high, and stay dry. ;-)

Some guys feel a floatation device is necessary, while others just take their chances, and hope for the very best.

When the battery reaches 50% you should begin flying back, Yes...

Providing the wind is at its back... Haha

I will probably start off at the shore line after I get used to it on land.

Does a plane fly over water safely?  A helicopter etc etc ?
Flying machines fly regardless of what's down below.
Fly over water just like you fly over solid ground.
Over water is good for flying because there's generally nothing to hit and if it's a large body of water like the sea, you'll have a good interference area to fly.

I plan to fly from a boat soon. Doing that there will need to turn RTH off and set to Hover. Getting that wrong could result in a controlled descent into water.

If you have a device like the iPad Air2 Cellular, which has a GPS module, you can occasionally change your dynamic home point, to where you are, with the RC...  So no need to worry about it engaging RTH or setting it to a hovering mode...

I am using the iPhone 6S.

Think I will set it to hover if it loses contact and then move the boat back into range and land it that way.

From what I can see the dynamic home point is set from the device at the moment you select it and so from a moving boat it will not be correct. It may be useful to get it back close then manually fly in the final approach.

So set it to hover and try not go go out of range?

Some nice work. Getting that low to the water takes a certain level of bravery.
