Hi,
Is it safe to fly a P4 in the rain? The reason Iask is that DJI now sponser the WRC, & of coarse a lot of the camera work is now captured by drone. Throughout the season there is going to be some pretty foul weather, so what happens? do they go back to more traditional methods to get footage, are the dromes a disposable item in the cost of sponsership or will they survive if flown in rain or heavy snow?

I do not think they like hard rain. I have flown when it was misty with no problems other than water on the camera lens messing up the shot.  I mean if it is raining, you are not likely to get good shots anyway.

Despite the adverts, they fly Inspires to do the filming so that they can have a pilot + camera operator.  I guess the Inspire is a bit more water resistant than the Phantom, but as above, if it is actually raining then you wont get good aerial footage anyway so they will land and stay undercover.

Rain + electrics are not a great combo.  In addition to reducing the effective range of the control signal and of course misting of the camera lens, if the gimbals get wet, they will stop working until they dry out (best case scenario).  Be safe -- fly dry.

It cannot be good... if u do fly in moisture, certainly let it dry for a day or 2, or u will pay eventually.. water and electricity - a no-no...  and no it is not designed to be water-proof in any way.

None of these units are waterproof, aside from the Agras. Any water damage would void the warranty if the aircraft was flown in the rain and incurred water damage.

Yes, you need an appropriate drone, that has been built to withstand the moisture from getting inside.

Be prepared to shell out big bucks, for those high end, professional quality units. ;-)

Hahaha, yeah I bet you are.. ;-)

Are you going to include the $60,000 camera for yours too?

Or perhaps just use a GoPro camera?  Chuckles

That was only one example I shared of weather and water proof design. Not meant to tantalize the others here.

But yeah, somebody must be buying these incredible multi rotors. What a treat for them.

More for professional business uses, rather than our RC hobby interests. ;-)

Noooooo NOT the camera.  Few hundred dollars one should be enough to have fun with it. I love the upside down stunt camera shoot though....

The Phantom series isn't waterproof. Agricultural drones, like the Agras, would be water proof.

Would it float, or sink, and just need to be retrieved from fresh water and dried out for more flights?

When you say water proof, how many meters deep, or leagues would it be safe?

I may need to correct myself, as weather-proof would probably more accurate:

This unit is used for spraying liquids, so it's more resilient to water on a more minor level like rain. I wouldn't know for sure whether it could take a dive into a lake. I can look into it, but the latter is probably unlikely.

Yes, measure the drink, in fathoms below sea level. ;-)

They say oceans blue, but the water often looks a greenish colour, "plausibly" from the algae, ;-)

I don't think the Agras are completely water proof. Mostly highly water resistant at best.

I would dislike the job, of cleaning the drone after it being used in an agricultural job. Much of those products are pretty nasty.

Being a Yamaha fan boy, I like their answer to RC agricultural models. image.jpeg

In the last picture, it seems like they must really love that unit in order to roll out a stretcher for it.

In either scenario, we've definitely come a long way from solely using those crop duster planes for this line of work!

Um, that's a gurney, for somebody who got too close. The injured heli pictured would never fit in that ambulance.

Yes, we've advanced well beyond our years in RC modeling.
The future is bright. Though too, As the incredible technology increases, so do the prices.. ;-)

How do we level those costs, making the new models more affordable for the masses?

Yes you're right, the work 'gurney' escaped me for a moment. It was primarily a joke, the picture seemed framed up for that given that there wasn't an injured person in the frame. Not all attempts at humor can be hits, I suppose.

Yes, sometime a fatality, precedes rushing an injured person to an emergency ward.

So, in this case, if the picture was taken farther back, you could certainly be witness to this tragedy,
