Maybe I haven't read the manual carefully enough, but is there a way to set the file numbering to continuous like you can with DSLRs?

The issue I have encountered is that I sometimes download and erase photos / videos from my micro SD card and then take another flight to take more photos videos. When I then download the second batch of files to the same folder, they end up happening the same numbering (file names) as the first batch.

I then either have to manually change the names or put them in a different folder to avoid having to overwrite one of the two files with the same number/name.

+1 on this. Already proving to be difficult to manage. This should be doable via firmware update?

DJI IS aware if the issue and is working on a fix. Thanks to Tahoe Ed who is a person that brings a level of sanity to this forum!

Are you Formatting the SD ;Card to ease the files? That will refresh the SD Card and it will start all over again. and you do have to rename them or put them in a new destination folder. If memory serves there was a post about keeping the sequence with the Inspire. I don't remember what you have to do. Let's see wha Ed has to say about it and go from there. What you are experiencing is normal for a digital camera.

Perhaps a date/time based filename like 1502221530  That would always keep it unique

I have the same problem. Is there already a solution for continous numbering?

I have the same issue. If I delete files from the card it will start over at 1. Does not require a format for that to happen.

If it doesn't find an existing file it will start from scratch.

I found the setting after some searching. To be clear, it is not in the general settings menu. You must hit the "menu" on the camera toolbar on the right. It's the top button on that toolbar. With the menu open you scan scroll between camera, video, and the wrench for general settings. You want the wrench. In there you will find the file index mode setting.  You must have the bird on with the camera attached and everything connected.

Now I can finally feel like I've accomplished something if only making the number on my files go up.

Thanks for the information.

Was easy to change and it has been bugging me. All good now.

see photo

click on the word "menu" above the camera and video icons.
click on the wrench.
scroll down the menu.
on "file index mode" click on right arrow.
select "continuous".
back out of the menu.
