I've got Phantom 3S and can hardly see my phone display when in the sun. Is there a way to mount an 8inch tablet on the remote?

Being reluctant to drill a hole/dismantle the new controller,I bought an additional mount (part 80) + replaced the existing one............... the 2 new ones had aluminium supports, are mounted next to each otherand are far more rigid. I then bent some alumium strips (1metre length from B and Q for £5) and made a couple of small s shaped brackets which hung over the top of the tablet so I could then use the new clamps in the larger 7" tablet.......... works really well and rock solid............ should fit any size tablet by altering the bracket size.

I also bought with clamp to the handle ....

Solution is to clamp low down on the side bar of the handle - not on the top hand part. The clamp then extends forward over top of controller but to one side.

I use a 7" Nexus in my holder - but an 8" would be ok ... close but would work.

Now I have Argtec fitted and the antenna are fixed further out from controller case.



Unfortunately I never photo'd with the standard antenna ... but you can see where I have the clamp bar on this photo.

It is a case of fiddling about till you get it clear and it will be a close affair.

Don't forget also that antenna is best pointing near vertical - which INCLUDES DOWN as well as UP !! Its only cosmetic convention that makes us point it UP ....

If you don't mind modding your remote controller a bit, you can attach the DJI tablet mount onto the P3S remote controller like this.

Thanks Nigel, the one I get meant that the antenna had to be angled at about 20 degrees BUT I hadn't considered pointing it down!

It was less than £10 so not really worth it AND it has a metal arm so even using that improves the stability. As Nigel has just pointed out I could point the antenna down, which had never occurred to me

Just tried it and the antenna only goes from 90 to 270 degree, it wan't face down :-(

I have to check - but I seem to remember the case can be slacked and antenna can be turned carefully ..

Been quite a while since I removed the standard antenna.

Very nice holder .... but I am a Neckstrap user ... which negates any holder that uses the neckstrap attachment point.

I think this is an excellent solution, and doesn't require any drilling:

I must admit that I had considered looking at car mounts for tablets etc. ... the GoPro mount used in that video is a good idea ... as it doesn't use the neckstrap eyelet or clamp.

This may seem unconnected to the thread, but bear with me .... the use of a tray actually can lead to mounting displays in ways not usually considered. It also steadies the controller.
With the addition of top heavy Argtec antenna and my later addition of boosters / battery supply. I am modifying a standard RC Transmitter tray to become my Controller base. The boosters and antenna will be fitted to the tray along with battery to power the boosters. The controller will then slot in and antenna leads connected.

The display tablet can then sit in a standard sunshade box, above the controller, fitted to the tray.

The assembly will create a Standard that should provide exceptional range and ease of handling controller.

Actually designed specifically for a 9xr radio ... which I have 3 ... but can be modifies to take any other.



Even if only for a standard controller - a tray like this can a) provide a steady platform for the controller allowing you to have both hands free ... b) mount the display above the controller via the neckstrap rods ...
There are many other designs .. some in wood .. some like this in Polycarbonate. They are lightweight and easy to live with.

I did this when I had my P3S, very simple and a big improvement over the stock phone clamp the P3S came with

MAX is it solid does the screen shake or is it nice and solid i got the wife a new ipad mini for valentines day and she says i can take it to fly so i dont want it to fall out and break godforbid so it must be stable.

A shared device is probably not the best option to use with your drone. Too many installed apps and multiple account logins would make me worry about app crashes while flying.

That looks great; I am guessing the base is a stick on one, which would worry me that with time and heat it may drop off?

the holder is quite solid and stable. It must be well tighten the screws. I use a tablet 9.7".

Best way is to register a free account with something like :

PHOTOBUCKET

You upload your photos to it and then you have links to it so it can be displayed on forums / added to emails / instant messaging etc. without having the full file size transferred to post / message.

Some forums allow images to be direct from PC to the site - but usually seriously low on file size to avoid overloading forum  servers.

A little trick to learn is the IMG tag ... but difficult to decsribe here as forum will interpret [img] etc as a picture
