How important do you think it is to lock the Osmo gimbal, and when is it a "must"?

If it's out of the case, it's likely in use, so unlocked. If I switch off and walk around for a few minutes, so far I haven't locked. If it's in the case I don't see the need as it's nice and snug and not going to wobble.

I'm asking in case by not locking the gimbal at any particular stage I am risking damage to the unit and would welcome any advice you have.

I have the Osmo+ and there are only two locks.
