Hello,

Recently I have been thinking a lot about the optionality of the Phantom 3 and how the 4 lacks the optionality of changing cameras and adding different aftermarket sensors/instruments.  Does anyone know if DJI is designing the 5 in such a way that the optionality is back, and if so when will the 5 drop?

The Phantom 4 Pro series was just released, so a P5 is not going to be coming for a while. DJI has been moving away from 3rd party customization for the Phantom series as a whole and focusing on their own cameras. Going back to the days of the Phantom 2 are not likely.

Well DJI  just dropped an image of a new drone and are planning to unveil it at MWC 2017. So we might know in a few days.

Your posting is too vague to understand properly.
It seems that you don't know how much of a big step forward the camera on the P4 pro is.
You couldn't get a better camera and still be able to lift it and the gimbal that would be necessary to control it.

I apologize for being vague, I want to do LiDar and remote sensing.

Then you need to look beyond the Phantom line.
It's not suitable for mounting additional cameras and equipment.
Look at the Matrice 100 & 600 .. and the brand new Matrice 200.

Agreed 100%.  Phantom is the "all in one" type drone.  I am a Geomatics student and have been in the survey industry for 20-years (conventional cadastral surveying).  Anyhow I have similar aspirations as you trying to create a survey grade aerial platform on the cheap (as in, not $100's of thousands like traditional photogrammetry/LiDAR solutions).  The Phantom just isn't for that, but it is a great platform.  The Matrice is a good choice, and I really think DJI has the control software dialed in.

I wonder when Hasselblad will finally have their name on a Phantom or other DJI drone, camera or front element?
