I don't know what happened but I was wideopen at 400ft at 42mph. Over the next 3 seconds my speed steadly increased then dropped to 30mph while I shot upward to 492ft. Didn't notice the 90 foot climb until halfway back. 78.7mph.
Whenever you fly high you can get drastic changes in wind speeds. Also thermals and gusts.
Normally the drone takes care of this in GPS mode but not in Atti mode. I've done some flying up through clouds moving along at a nice set of knots at 10200ft.
Here are some older Phantom top speeds, none of which have "sport mode" but instead have ATTI (P2s and P3s mostly): http://www.flytrex.com/challenges/speed/phantom-all/
I hit 42mph today but that is with a tail wind on the way home in GPS mode. Did some full throttle got home really fast. lol

Yes - my record speed in GPS mode is around 48 mph with an 18 mph tailwind, but my record speed in ATTI mode is 65 mph with the same tailwind.

I like that presentation with the overlay. What software was that? Is that Lichti? Something else? Thanks.
Yes I got lucky with the conditions. Just made it through the clouds after 380m of climbing. Flew up to the max 500m and altitude was just above 3100m or 10200ft. Passenger plane free zone as they are not allowed near these mountains.
Like others have mentioned, you most likely had some help from the wind when you started to accelerate and then had to fight the wind when you were going up. In addition, the throttle speed is not as fast as the aileron, elevator and rudder.
Thanks. Was with a friend and we had low clouds coming in. We were about an hour away from this location so I said lets go and see. We did 2 afternoons here. This day was earlier. The next day we got in a few video's. This is later in the day for the sunset.
