Do i need to update the firmware to fly? i am not able to get on wifi to update and want to get some footage

The updates are not mandatory, you should be OK to fly, just make sure all is fully charged, RTH and RTH height are set OK etc.

Aardvark summed it up, just to add, start your drone if it is the first time your using it, carry out all the calibrations etc.
If there are no errors showing pretty much good to go.

Firmware update can be done using a laptop, too.
