Was flying about 100 ft up and descending when the mavic went into auto-land.  I was used to this happening and I expected to be able to cancel by throttling up.  No matter how I throttled up, the mavic wouldn't go up.  No matter what I did I couldn't cancel auto land.  I tried the pause button, return home, and even turned off transmitter.  Nothing helped.  It did let me maneuver horizontally so I had a safe landing, but this is really scary!  Anyone figure out what the issue is?  I could have easily lost the mavic if it landed in an unsafe place.  Battery was at 65%.

Sounds like you have the VPS issues as discussed here (http://forum.dji.com/thread-77495-1-1.html), although it is odd that you weren't able to cancel the auto land at all. If the latest firmware didn't fix the VPS problems for you, you'd have to send it back and get it repaired under warranty.

You need to update your firmware, my mavric did the same thing and updating it to .500 fixed it. It's not supposed to go into auto land every time you pull back on the throttle

This may be the same behavior I was experiencing recently. I posted about it here: http://forum.dji.com/thread-88670-1-1.html.  For safety, there must be a method for aborting a landing after the landing sequence has been initiated.

You have two separate issues going on here...

Firstly, the Mavic going into auto-landing. As Jit suggested above, this seems like the VPS issue that many users have had. This was supposed to have been solved with the latest firmware. Was yours up-to-date? You said "I was used to this happening." Does that mean that you were aware of this defect, or have you just always thought this was normal behavior of the Mavic and not a defect?

Secondly, not being able to cancel the auto-landing. Throttling up always used to work for me. CAAirborne seems to be saying that this no longer works with the latest version of the firmware. I haven't tested this recently (as I pretty much leave Landing Protection disabled), but I will definitely test this out as soon as I can. If DJI has taken away any way to cancel an auto-landing, that sounds like a mistake to me.

I always assumed that if you held the throttle down for an extended period of time, it goes into auto land.  in the past, i've always been able to cancel by just throttling up for a second.  This time in particular was an anomaly.  I just updated yesterday after this incident the latest firmware, which i thought i already had, but it still prompted for an update.

Thank you for the clarification and summary, Jason.

I didn't know I could disable Landing Protection... I may try that when in a situation where a very low hover is required.

So you're not sure which version of the firmware you had at the time of the incident?

Holding the throttle down for a few seconds will initiate auto-landing if the VPS sonar detects the ground within 0.5m (1.5ft), and only when Landing Protection is enabled. Holding throttle down for any length of time at a higher altitude is not supposed to initiate auto-landing.

Hi Mindy, any update on this?  Thanks

Thank you for your cooperation.
I have checked your flight records. It's probably the ultrasonic issue.
For your flight safety, I'd suggest you to send it in for further evaluation.
