I would shoot a higher resolution, but don't have the video editing rig yet for this size of project.
Until then, I learn shooting in 1080p......

Always in 4k 30fps. I can slow down the speed 24fps in post production. 1080p looks so blurry on the Mavic.

2,7k 30fps. After a lot of tests with profiles and resolutions this is the best outcome for me. Less compression, especially GOP compression artifacts on 2,7k vs 4k.

So whats the story about shooting in 30fps?
Here in Europe we have PAL versus NTSC in the US.
Furthermore you have this 50 and 60 mega giga hertz blabla where as you choose the incorrect one streetlights and lightbulbs flicker the living daylight out of your footage.
In short when shooting in 4k or 2.7k i can only choose for 24 fps or 25 fps.

I'd say the same resolution if you have the hardware. I think most people would render at 1080p

That's why I'm in europe but still choose NTSC ;)

If you don't shoot for TV broadcast you can set NTSC in Europe and shoot using 30 fps.

I use 1080p 30 fps due to one massive advantage - you can zoom in on your subject.  Any higher res and you ability to zoom is lost.  I also use the 30 FPS because more FPS == blurry.  30 FPS is still solid looking.

There is a whole debate regarding this on youtube. I get the point with 2.7K that you have more bitrate per pixel, but at the same time you have a source material thats so much bigger and should be more detailed in 4K. The higher pixel resolution -> higher bitrate per pixel. Maybe im wrong but.

Really hard comparing this as well. Many are judging 4K material with a 1080P monitor, then you have Youtube which compresses the video a lot as well. Not easy to judge.

I thought it was the other way around.  Because of the higher resolution, I was under the impression that the higher resolution offers the opportunity to zoom, but downscaled to 1080p.

Not?......

That is backwards.  You can of course do zooming in post processing.

Ah yes, I understand now.  The digital zooming capabilities through the lens when shooting in 1080p.  Sorry, I didn't catch your meaning.

Yes, I was referring to zooming in post from a 4k source.

Thanks for helping me understand..........

How did you conduct your test?  (I have a lot of 4K and 2.7K videos from the Mavic and can't draw a clear conclusion so would like to know how did this).

no, it's video, I just export frames. Still images can be captured in RAW so all these tests are irrelevant.

Still images are captured in RAW format i.e. as is and any settings like sharpness are irrelevant to RAW.

Like I already mentioned the post is related to different video settings

You can shoot in 4K and crop in post for zoom function.  Pretty much the same as using the digital zoom on the Mavic.

The highest useful resolution for me is 2,7K. Either 24 or 30 FPS.
4K is really devastating for gradients in the native sharpness (which is +1) - Example

With one exception...  You can't see what you are zooming on when flying.

This is besides the extra work to crop it.

4K seem sharper, but in my experience contains less IQ in most cases. If everything is dead static… like filming buildings with no motion. Than the 4k seem to have some advantage.

But filming a landscape with foliage, grass, water and other random elements in motion, seem to brake the 4k faster than 2.7k. I have some test shots where the texture in 4k is just gone while preserved in 2.7k. Both shot at +1 sharpness. IMHO the conclusion is texture/higher IQ=2.7k, while sharpens (edges mostly)=4k. Now I tend to like texture since it riches the image… so 2.7k is preferred IMO.

I would love the hear if someone else have similar or different experience.

For me 2.7fps and 30fps is good and have space for micro sd card. 4k 3840x2160 30fps and 30fps is the best but not enough sd card. Now i still use 4k and 30fps 3840x2160 30fps so i have to use high 64gb sd card

I use 2.7 k dlog and 30fps(ntsc) style 0 -3 -3 thats is the best setting for 2.7 K .
Post production Davici Resolve studio 14.
Why: first all tv's  has no problems with PAL or NTSC, also PC screen.
I don't have a big computer with a 6 GIG videocard and a 4K monitor for post production and a 4K tv to show on.
So I think you better ask yourself why shoot in 4k ???
