Did the classic rookie misstake, set the RTH altitude to low and was standing right behind the tower blocking the signal.
Lost the signal and when returning it flew straight for the tower (at 1:50). The sensor stopped it from crashing, it then hoovered for 10 minutes until I could walk to the other side of the tower and regain contact.

It´s a very smart drone but not that smart
It hit it´s max altitude that I had set unfortunantely, not as dramatic as your suggestion
