Just got a PH4 and the unit generally works well.  However twice while flying the gimbal suddenly went limp.  The camera still works but any attempt to change tilt fails.  As the bird flies, you can see the picture shake as if the gimbal is unconnected to anything.  Manual control of bird still works fine.  The gimbal leaves the camera pointed down and to the left.

At that point I bring it home and land.  If I then power the aircraft down and power it back up.  The gimbal resets and all works correctly.   The next flight generally goes well with no gimbal issues.

Total flights so far is 30 or so.  I dont use Sport mode.  On one of those two flights I saw a gimbal warning message that appeared.

This has happened twice now, flying in about the same area, 300 feet up and maybe 1000 feet away.  Any thoughts or ideas on what might cause this and what I should do?

Do you have any filters fitted at all ? (causing an imbalance perhaps)

You could try a Gimbal calibration, or perhaps a factory reset of firmware on aircraft using DJI Assistant 2, that would maybe rule out a firmware problem.

Perhaps the ribbon cable isn't seated properly in the connections (or it may just be faulty).

No filters, just the bird as delivered.  Did a Gimbal calibration and will see if that helps for future flights.  Cable issue seems less likely as a restart after landing and it works correct.  Nothing else moved.

I've seen quite a few reports of this, and experienced it once myself - restart fixed it for me, too.

Just yesterday, after 43 seconds into my flight, my gimbal did the same thing. I was still able to record video back to landing and the gimbal was all over the place. I shut everything down and restarted and everything was fine....WTH! Going to launch again today to see if I get a repeat. Anyone from DJI figured this one out yet? Oh, and this was the second time this has happened. Have the same bird since last July. Will upload vid when I figure that out....LOL........maybe I should put this comment in another thread, but can someone give me a step by step instruction on how to upload a 17 sec vid to this thread? We have tried pretty much everything but the right thing.......THANKU!

Oh, as you can see "we" figured out how to upload the video.......LOL

I only experienced 'limp gimbal' on my P4 once after the Beta update in January - haven't had it prior or since. Also haven't expereinced it on my P4P, although I've read of a number who have prior to the latest firmware release for it.
My money is on that this is a condition thriggered by a specific combination of flight data not being appropriately handled by the gimbal controller (or in another way, a hole in the logic which cacks the gimbal). Again, pray to the firmware God that this is improved with the coming firmware release for the P4.

I have had this happen twice to me since installing the beta test software from which there is NO ESCAPE.

Good luck!  DJI doesn't give a damn!  There are a couple of issues I wish I could resolve but since I can't troubleshoot my P4 by comparing it with someone else's when everyone else is running official firmware while I'm stuck with unofficial, undocumented firmware.  We beta testers are S.O.L!  DJI has abandoned us leaving us to twist slowly in the wind while they focus on their newest products!

Yes thats the way its looking , i,m on the beta test firmware as well, once it has gone totally limp and flopping about, the other two times it just falls to the side so ones horizon is majorly tilted, i haven't done a gimbel recalibration as was really expecting to see a firmware update to get off this beta firmware already
