Okay, here's my second video.  Finally got over my fear of flying over water, took a while!

http://youtu.be/QEDfLrLrJlI

And if you didn't see my first video, here it is -

http://youtu.be/a_dJbaDl7F4

I think the first one is a bit more interesting but the second one is more about learning to fly.

Comments appreciated!

Jim

Hey Jim, unlike you I'm yet to venture near the water but after seeing your footage (well done btw) I'm sure it will be soon as there are some great areas down my way ....was that taken in the Lane Cove area?

Hey Steve,

Very close, this was all taken under the Roseville Bridge.

Yeah, being out over the water is nerve racking but you do get used to it and start to trust the Inspire after a while.  Still, I don't just hang around, I get my shot and get back to land!

Nice!    Some gorgeous geography down there.

Would love to get it to the Nan Tien Temple outside Wollongong, that would be amazing.   Might ask them for permission sometime.

Wonder why you're afraid of flying over water if I see your first video.Number 1 is much more risky. If the bird comes down all you can do is hope to find it back.
But I like your video's.

Love the first video as it has more depth to it.  The tail end of the second video where your backing up and the tree goes by is a good effect also.  It really is all in what kind of a effect your trying to put across.  Enjoyed it all.

Great work Jim!
What were your camera settings...specifically your EV?

I use the standard LOG, -1 sharpness, -3 contrast, -3 saturation.  Try to keep to a 180 degree shutter (twice the frame rate so 1/60 if you are shooting 30P, 1/50 for 25 etc.)

Then it's all about color grading and editing.   I use DaVinci Resolve for color correction.

Jim I also use standard LOG and 0Sharpness and -3 contrast, -3 saturation. Do use use a LUT Profile? You made mention of using DaVinci Resolve for color correction???  Can you tell me more about that please?

Sure Mike.  DaVinci Resolve is the industry standard for high end correction and up until a couple of years ago cost about $250,000 to install!   Since then Black Magic bought it and offer a semi-expensive, affordable and even a software-only FREE version that all do almost the same thing.

You can download it at https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products

The learning curve can be pretty steep if you don't have a background in grading, but the power is immense!

A LUT can be a great starting point.   I often just color correct the LOG myself but if I'm going for a specific look a LUT can come in handy.  Such as emphasizing a sunset or striking sky etc.

The Inspire 1 LUTS made by Neumann Films are pretty good.   http://neumannfilms.net/product/dji-inspire-1-luts/     You need to alter them to make them work for every situation but can be a good start if you're in a hurry.
