How many here has ever experienced a prop breaking in mid air and Mavic Falling out of the sky? It did to mine this weekend good the "find my drone" worked.

The props will not break unless you've had a prior prop strike.
Even if a prop barely touches something it can cause internal damage and break at a later time.

My props were almost new and never hit anything on them.  I replaced them recently just for the heck of it.  Maybe wear and tear caused them to give and break.   I will try to replace more often maybe every 200,000 ft.

I replaced them recently just for the heck of it.

Out of curiosity, how long / for what distance had they been in use? There's no reason that one should just break and I'd be interested to see a photo of the one that did if you're willing and able to provide it. Is there any chance that the one that broke wasn't installed properly and that any damage to it occurred after it came off the aircraft?

Maybe wear and tear caused them to give and break.

Maybe so, though I've gotten a lot of use out of mine without any spontaneous malfunctions.

I will try to replace more often maybe every 200,000 ft.

There's certainly no harm in doing that, especially at $9 (USD) a pair.

Is there a recommended time to replace the props ? only as this is a bit worrying .... also might DJI make carbon fibre props like they do for the Phantom 3's

Question is how your drone is stored while your are moving or on a trip? I've seen a guy just trowing Mavic in to the bag, with all the props on everytime after he ending he's flight.

Im surprised they would break mid air though if there was no outer visible cracks

Is there a recommended time to replace the props ?

"we recommend that they are changed after around 200 flights" -- DJI Mindy

"If I even even just barely just scrape a prop I immediately toss it in the garbage. I'm not going to chance a $5 prop on a $1,000 aircraft." -- DJI-Ken

this is a bit worrying

I think 200 flights is a very conservative estimate; I flew quite a bit more than that with my last set and didn't have any problems, but I absolutely agree with Ken's logic.

Thanks, 200flights seems to be a fair amount of time to replace them, carbon props would be excellent though

If I'm interpreting the photo correctly, it looks like one of the blades came "cleanly" off the base and the other was detached when part of the base snapped off; is that correct? Very strange for that to happen spontaneously.

carbon props would be excellent

They're available from at least a couple of third-party vendors, but I've heard that they're more fragile and actually reduce flight time so I've never tried them.

Guess, I'm Lucky.  433 mile, and 46 hours of flight time. And no crashes. I keep my Mavic, in the Mavic storage bag. That came with it.

Flew it today and all is good so far.  Need to order more props.
