Since reading the forum I have been blown away with how some oft you guys can interpret the flight records and assist individuals with locating their aircraft. Not sure if this would be a huge task but is it possible to develop some sort of "idiots guide" to analysing flight records and what steps should be followed. I have read with interest numerous posts regard Flight records but must admit it seems a little out of my depth. However I do consider myself able to learn if provided with the necessary tools and explanation.

Cheers

Yes, the idiots guide is simple:

  • Ask the experts by starting a new thread with your question.
  • Provide the flight log via http://www.phantomhelp.com/LogViewer/upload/
  • Provide as much other accurate information as possible.
  • Sit back and wait for several different answers.
  • Wait a bit longer for the discussion to decide which answer is correct.
  • You now have your answer.

First learn aas much as you can about how the Phantom is programmed
Then learn as much as you can about common mistakes and their effects
Next hope the owner gives you a few clues in their description of what happened.
Look at the flight on Google Earth
Then look at the data, working your way through to find what was happening during the flight.
Identify the point (s) where things went wrong, taking into consideration things like wind, terrain, lost signal, RTH, altitude, joystick input, distance, error messages, battery level at startup  and whatever else might be a factor.
Use Google Earth to investigate terrain if that was part of the problem.
Then take another 30 minutes to write a report  if it's a complicated incident.

Oops ... you're right.
That should be ... 30 mins to write it up, more if it's a complicated incident.
Some get quite complex.

Lots of pple here r great and willing; just use them Personally I am surprised that those experts are not from DJI, but DJI overall does not seem great in interpreting the logs.. unless things get escalated...
