1. My nVidia Shield (used with the Phantom 4 Pro) gets pretty hot after about 20 mins. Anybody know about this? Obviously it is doing some work and things are heating up.



2. I need a hood for the the nVidea Shieled so I can see in the bright sun. What options have you found? I am thinking of laser cutting or 3D printing parts. Anyone have drawings for that? Or how about instructions for cutting it out of cardboard?

Do you have any other programs running in the background? Do you have USB debugging enabled or disabled? There are a few threads regarding monitor/tablet hoods floating around the Phantom and Inspire sections, have you tried searching for some established discussions?

No idea why yours would heat up so much. When flying my P4P, my K1 stayed as cool (warm?) as it did with any other use. You can find hoods on eBay, even if they aren't made specifically for the K1. You can also try adjusting your display settings (like gamma and such). This combined with a no-glare screen might make things much more visible for you. Aloha Biggy,

     Yesterday, when I was flying my P4 Pro, I noticed my nVidia was a little hot.  A while back I had inadvertently blocked the speaker outlets (in a magnet test) and it really heated up.  So, be careful about blocking those openings for the speakers because they are also ventilation ports.

     As for a sun hood, I made a really good one out of Corona Light 12 pack cardboard.  When everything looked right, I painted it with a flat paint.  Works great.  It even has clearance for the speaker ports to allow air circulation.  They even sell 1 square inch Velcro patches.  With the patches, you can take it apart and store it flat.

Thanks I am looking into which DIY hood to make for the nVidia. As you know, with no hood and the nVidia centered on the device holder, the holes are not blocked. So I am looking into apps and modes on the nVidia before my next flight.

Doers everyone try to use 5.8Ghz? Is that a possible cause for it to heat up?

DJI-Jamie - I do not have USB debugging on - I have Android 7.0. I became a Developer, went into Developer Options, turned off all options, then turned off Developer Options.I also force stopped all apps I thought I could live without while flying. So taday I will see if this helps.

I used the box my shield came in.  I just cut off one of the long sides and clamp it in the holder on top of the tablet.  Works great.

Note: I normally fly using goggles, so this is not usually an issue for me.  But it has worked just fine at the times I did use it.  I live in Southern California, so I get plenty of sunlight.

Interesting - so the tablet does not slip out of the grip of the holder?

I actually put a small piece of Velcro on the back of the tablet and its mate on the box.  So far I have had no issues with it falling out.
I have dropped the tablet while holding it in my hand though, which is why the screen is cracked.

I have 3d printed the first half of the frame for my Shield. Second half once I figure out supports for elevated tabs (this is 3d printer talk, I am using Wolfie's and Skypixels modification for a smaller printer)

I've been trying to work out which size is suitable for the K1. They seem to come as L111, L128, L168, L200 etc. Can you shed some light on this?
