Hello guys,
My laptop is quite old, however I was surprised to see QuickTime can not play propperly the videos from my Mavic Pro under macOS Sierra 10.12.5
I do have bootcamp with Windows 7 and Media Player Classic Home Cinema which tunrned out to plays videos propperly hah.
So right now my Mac behaves better under Windows!
What a charm haha.

Have anyone found a good player that can render videos without making proxies/trascendent videos?

Full specs are:
MacBook Pro (17-inch, Early 2011)
2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
512GB OCZ-VERTEX4 SSD

Video Radeon 6750M

4K Needs a CPU that can handle H.264 and H.265 back in 2010 when your CPU was designed or earlier don't think Intel was planning for 4K footage now you have to reply on software which is tougher try and find a player that handles 4 Cores and 8 threads for best results.

@hridge thanks man, I can use iMovie and FinalCutPro to convert, but it slows the process.

@IceCold Well you simply don't read, the CPU is I7-2820QM https://ark.intel.com/products/5 ... ache-up-to-3_40-GHz
It is from 2011 also know as Sandy Bridge, by the same time Intel released Quick Sync Video(which decodes h264), but still macOS Sierra don't seem to care.
As I said Windows7 plays more than ok, which is more than odd.
I believe Apple have stopped to care for old macs like mine.

Have you tried VLC? Also check that you have the latest codec packs from Apple  from App Store.

VLC can play the 4K without any constrains. The problem is not the mac, is the QuickTime.

Hi guys, I believe it's not QuickTime at all.
It's apple and they decoding tweaking.
I tried couple more players:
QuickTime Pro is the same
Mplayer ain't good either
5KPlayer no good either
Davinci Resolve shows fps if 13-16fps when playing in window mode.

Then the only way I found so far is to boost VLC Player to utilize multiple Threads in CPU!
In Tools / Preferences / Video Codecs" / FFMPEG / Threads, value of 0 which means "Auto", but it's not working for me. I had to incease to 16
Remark that the FFMPEG library is not used for all video formats.

Big thanks to guys at superuser.com for this article:

The worst thing of all is that if you run Windows10 on same hardware, the EMBEDDED player in Windows10 plays without any issues!
