Anyone else in Australia ripped the little black ribbon on their gimbal and been told it can;t be repaired and the only choice is to fork out $750 for a whole new gimbal.

Sounds bit steep to me.

I have been doing a little more homework throughout the day (and parting with $750 for a new gimbal) What I'm being told by dealers here in AUS is that DJI is not repairing gimbals damaged in a accident. I'm not bagging anyone (from what I have heard DJI are good to deal with) I'm just trying to find out if I can send this damaged gimbal somewhere to be repaired.

You may need to send the gimbal back to China for repair.

I recommend you send back to DJI for repair. They will rebuild it or repair it properly. their support is good so you should use it.

I tore my cable too. My supplier said it's a non cost effective repair (return to China - and they don't repair returns my supplier told me). I got going again by being patient and picking up parts on EBay. I have actually made a difficult repair to the cable as well. I have chased DJI re helping me with a stand-in cheap gimbal installation meantime. They are very uncooperative. I think I've been blackballed, and that without any offensive words from me. I've written to the CEO, but a response seems unlikely. I think DJI are following a bad customer service policy. They do a very good job at integrating things like the gimbal, but then you get zero help with alternatives. This is a unit likely to get damaged. I'm replacing my transmitter and receiver so I get control of signals at the aircraft -using  the amazing open source Taranis Tx. I'm giving the CEO another chance, but I'm unlikely to use DJI kit again. DJI are probably good at customer service for their own equiment, but just try to dig down for technical help when you want to deviate from their way of doing it!

Hi Ken, I have also modified my V2 to take an afte rmarket gimbal and GoPRo 3. It still has all the same features less FPV on my smart phone which I can use through the GoPro App if I relaly wanted to.

Slowly but surely entrepreneurs are appearing that provide repair services and/or buy damaged V+ gimbals for rebuilds they are selling since there are more and more aftermarket replacement components available.
Maybe there is one close to you already

I have not broken my cable but it is great to see that there are now some good options for those who have.
