Well I was kind of bored with the white so I Plastic-Dip our Inspire 1.  I used Athracite Grey aerosol spray from DipYourCar.com  Here are some photo's.  I left the batteries and Camera alone (white)

Love it! Did you remove the shell first before coating or did you mask off the other parts?

Masked everything, it was ok.  Better that way then taking it apart.

Good job, ordered 2 cans a couple of days ago myself.(black blue)
Was wondering if there is a way to remove the upper cover of the battery to prepare the painting?
Have you removed the canopy too() or just used tape to cover all the parts not requiring to be painted?
The company that make those paints says you do not need to prepare the surface, at the exception of removing traces of grease. How did you do?

Was wondering if there is a way to ...

I just cleaned the surface to be sprayed, battery was pulled out, no camera, unscrewed the four nuts from the front, unscrewed the two from the back sides (near the DJI logo), unscrewed the side supports (they have four screws each) and sprayed each separately, masked everything that I did not want sprayed and sprayed 3 coats (30-40 min between each spray) and then let it dry for about four hours.  If you do get over spray just use a microfiber towel and rub it off, do not use thinner or any chemicals.  Note: don't worry about spraying the little light in the back, next to the DJI logo, you can peel it off if you like, just use a xacto knife to cut it away if it is still attached to the rear part of the sprayed area.

Thank you for the infos drklion, what is your plan about the battery covers?
That seems like the most difficult part if we want to do it properly...

TCI had it done before they shipped it. It took two extra weeks of waiting, but I'm glad I did it. I really like the solid black ones above too though.

That seems like the mos ...

From what I can see from the Plastic-Dip if you spray the battery tops the light areas and turn on button should be fine after a min. of three coats are dry.  You can take an xacto knife and slowly peel that area off to reveal the button and lights.  I would suggest to not spray the clip area that holds the battery in place, they tend to fit snug and most likely be a pain to clip them into place after the coats.

The best part about the Plastic-Dip is that it peels off.

Blackie:  Hydrodipped - Black Carbon Fiber

I'm having mine dipped but not yet (I have 8 different patterns in my possession) But I'm gonna have a professional company do it. with my patterns (Which for some reason they can not obtain) Also I'm having my Voyager3 dipped when I get it  (They will be dipped at the same time) My question? How did you get the battery cover done I've been trying to pry mine apart but I'm afraid to crack it.

Looks cool! Does it make it easier (or harder) to see when it's in the air at distance?

There are eight clips underneath the battery lid, these can be undone with a thin flat screwdriver ( gently ), then under that you'll find for screws holding the electrics, undo them and Bob's you Uncle!
Be a bit careful though.

Happy bodging

Abe, it has been my experience it is easier to see. I've only had it out about a half mile but I compare seeing a raven compared to a snow goose. I can see a large black bird easier than a large white bird at a half mile. I think orientation at closer distances might be better with the white/black combo but I can always put in a white battery if I want.

Has anyone noticed a decrease in GPS performance or compass issues with the extra layer over the plastic? I would imagine not, but just curious / cautious.
