I cut the washers from a thin plastic cover for documents and placed on top of mounts under the props.

Are talking about the clear plastic sheet protectors?  Not a bad idea but do they stay in place during prop removal?

Yes. I found black A4 binder for records. It has two plastic covers, rigid a little bit. I wasn't very precise with cutting but plates stay in place. You can prepare more then two Now both reds and whites  are almots the same tight. I think it's more safe than super glue.

Finaly I put my vinyl shims between mounts and buckles, so I don't worry I lose them.
