Apologize if this has been asked before but my top speed for my spark is 14 mph.  Using the controller I have beginner mode and obstacle avoidance off.  Also have sport mode on.  The specs indicate that in a no wind situation it can reach 31 mph.  I'm nowhere close.  I have also recalibrated the stick controls.

According to my flight logs, I've had mine up to 23.8 mph at some point without actually trying to go fast.  I've never tried to see how fast it could go.  

I have reached 30 mph , do you have prop guards on all the time?

33mph on one flight. Lots of flying room.

I flew in a wide open field in sport mode for the first time a few days ago. According to the DJI Go App, I hit 29.5mph

Was in an open field and hit 33mph.

sounds to me like you misread. the spark as a default shows m/s (meters per second)
14m/s are about 31mph

if you set it up to show mph then better contact DJI, something seems not right
