Thx .. that was really sick and I was afraid too. I was waiting for about 10 minutes before launch because of the wind. After a few helix and circles I flew it back to me to land it in my hand. I forgot the obstacle detection. I was shocked and already thought about switching this off in the settings. Then I turned it about 180 and flew it backwards to me and land it. Pooh .. I was heartly relieved ...

That's almost as dangerous as hand launching without prop guards.

Of course me too. But I was really afraid, that the spark was turning too high and lost the connection. I made one helix an three circles. None of them in 360 ..
But I'm happy that I did this and that I got my spark back. Making this video was the reason for me to buy the spark

Wow, impressive ! Too bad it didn't do the 360 like you wanted and that it's not "smoother", it seems to me the Parrot Bebop "circles" work better than that...

With controller or without? I'm contemplating getting the RC in the hopes of it improving signal

Make sure they have it. All the stores in NL pushed back delivery dates. Even DJI official store changed shipping from 5-7 days to 17-24.

They show it as in stock and available for express next day delivery. I purchased my Spark batteries from them and they seem to be reliable.

Interesting how they are offering next day delivery when DJI are saying 17-24 though

I bought my Spark for exactly same purpose. We plan our trip to Dolomites in early September.

A technical question: Where did you take off and land? Did you have any issues mid-flight (signal loss, wind)?

You can take off from the palm of your hand. I have done this many times and then taken control of it through the app. Then bring it back in close and put your hand under it under 'Gesture' control. No need for somewhere to land and take off from. One of the reasons why I got the spark!

I did not have any issues during the flight. I startet it via Auto-Start from the palm of my hand and landed it there.
There was wind that day and I worried about that .. but this video was the reason for me to buy the spark and selling my P3A .. so ..

Everything worked fine ..

Thanks for the info! I planned to start the Spark from the palm but I am still uncertain if I'm able to reach it back for landing. It's fairly easy when you are on the ridge but in the wall - I don't think so. It may not fly close enough using only gesture mode. I still need to practise that with a RC.

Thanks,
Matt

You maybe will have an other problem. My first try was in a wall but there it was not possible to get enough satelites for the start, because of too much rocks and not enough free space of the sky. I worried about that and did not try it in atti.
You will have your mobile device with you, so you will be able to fly the spark back to you. I would never try to start it only with gesture, because you will not have an homepoint then.

I plan to have RC with me, not only the phone. Today I tried hand launching and landing with another person and a remote and I must say it works quite nice. There's a long checklist of things to learn before the trip.

Awesome video! And a really beautiful ferrata.

I think you will not need the RC. It worked fine only with the mobile phone, and the possible distance is enough.

Good luck for your trip. I hope, we will see the result, Matt.
