I usually just take off from the grass or a wood deck, etc. however, last time at the park I noticed a strange distortion in my view. I landed and it was a droplet of dew from the grass that never dried.
I was considering a landing pad, but that's another thing to carry. Would it affect my compass if I just launched and landed off my aluminum flight box?  What do you guys use?

Normally aluminum is a non magnetic material with a permanent ferro magnet. If all material is not magnetic, you can launch your bird from that box. I did not test that yet.

If you run a compass app on your phone and can then move the phone all around the box without it affecting the compass direction then you should be OK.

Unless the case has a magnetic latch there should be no problem.

"Normally aluminum is a non magnetic material with a permanent ferro magnet" ??

Think a typing error ?

Aluminium is never magnetic unless used in electrical induced coils.

The case as long as it does not contain any FERROUS material or rare earth magnets should be fine.

Personally I have a square of hessian backed carpet that fits my bag and lays on top of the P3 before closing up.

Peter ... no worries and no intent to insult ...

Just thought better to clear it up before a New owner got confused !

Cheers
