Conventional wisdom, I think, has been to start with a small UAV (toy) to get comfortable before investing in a larger aircraft. I'm here to tell you IT AIN'T NECESSARILY SO. My very first drone was (is) the Inspire 2 and I'm quite comfortable flying it.  All it took was a half-dozen sessions in my own back yard, expanded to a large field nearby.
I bought mine this Spring via Amazon and was so thrilled at how it flew and the images that it recorded that I bought a second one as a back-up.

This weekend was my family reunion - at a beach.  After recording our family group shot with a traditional digital camera I put the I2 up and shot a few pics from the air. IT WAS GREAT!  I didn't shoot any video but we'll have the best photo album ever this year.

If only I would have thought to shoot at least one group shot from air (DANG!!) it would have been spectacular.

I can't wait until next year!

I started with a phantom 3 and a week later stepped up to the Inspire 1.
Those little cheap quads everyone seems to suggest are harder to fly.
With a DJI... let go of the sticks and it hovers.
Those cheapies.... let go of the sticks and it crashes.
Hmmmmmm.....
