So my biggest question is what if you are a commercial user have clearance with FAA if needed and they shoot you down? What happens then? I hope I am not going to be the first one to findout.

I guess, if shot down, the drone is gone, right? May you have the right to be silence, until a DonaldT will tell you how guilty u are by using an non US product. Wear orange.

The US military policy is just that, policy.  The current LAW is still in effect until rescinded by a judge or Congress.  It is currently illegal to shoot down a drone.

You're not going to get clearance to fly over a military base with restricted airspace. That's already outright illegal.

Understand this isn't an order to shoot down drones, it's an authorization.

I don't think it would bother me, being a US military installation, they might shoot, but will take out several of their own installations with the 'friendly fire'.

The Navy didn't shoot down an Iranian drone menacing a carrier & blocking an FA/18's landing path so I wouldn't be too concerned about your Phantom...
