I just gave a try to run DJI GO 4 apk through anbox ( https://anbox.io/ ) from an Ubuntu 16.04 LTS machine.
It did not worked because the apk does not contain x86_64 version of the app, it is armeabi-v7a only.
DJI, is there a chance will have an x86_64 compiled version of DJI GO 4 at some point ?

I'd lreally like to give a try from anbox, as it will rely on the WiFi layer of ubuntu which is not buggy as many android phones...
At least on my setup, I can choose regdom and channels and everything...

In parallel, I gave a try to run it on an Odroid XU4 running Android 7.1.2 lineageos image.
It is working great, but the 5.8 GHz and regdom implementation is buggy so it's not helping with respect to Europe issues...

(can see my testings and reports about 5.8 GHz here : https://forum.odroid.com/viewtop ... 23911&start=700)

If DFS and wifi stacks get fully working on the odroid xu4 device, I'll be able to setup a nice little control station with this screen :

that I own and is really working well !

OK, that's thinking out of the box.  Makes me wonder:  Can the android app work on an instance of android running in Oracle's Virtualbox on a PC or Mac?  I may have my next experiment :-)

it did kind of , work on windows 8 tablet with http://www.amiduos.com/
But my device didn't have the power to run both OS and on top of this a DJI GO4 app smoothly...

i was curious if there was a way to run this app on a raspberry pi, that would be amazing if i could and low enough power i could get away with a backpack rig maybe..and also maybe with enough tinkering use ethernet port and a wireless AP with much higher output as well.. but i dont know..

what would be amazing is if DJi worked with us on this better...  i know battery is only going to be good for ~5 miles one way sport mode with perfect signal, but what im finding more then not is half a mile can be seriously spotty in range if a lot of trees, 1 mile can be seriously problematic as well....  the guy i was helping teach how to fly today and showing off the capabilities, he said as search and rescue, the spark is actually surprisingly ideal size and weight, being able to launch it off palm or edge of a rock like we did in the rain and cover 1-2 miles reliably and run a search pattern is all they want and need.  15 minutes of run time is also not that bad, but only if you dont have to worry about running it home and only running search patterns and landing it somewhere safe..  more times than not both me exploring and him running search crew, its all about useable time and solid coverage at 1-2 mile mark... not 5 miles, not anything too crazy..

Android on the rpi3 is quite slow. But on the xu4 with emmc memory card it is really smooth. Only 5GHz is not perfection (with my wifi adapter at least) Butlike your idea to use Ethernet port + a Real AP.
