Well, it all went off like clockwork. No traffic. Viewing spot on exact centre of totality. Clear blue skies and not too many people.
I managed to get the Mavic up in the air 5 minutes before totality and left it flying throughout, capturing the moon's shadow racing across the Wyoming plains at over 1,600 mph.
A Go Pro hero on the ground captured the sounds and the overall view of the entire eclipse.
It was an unbelievably beautiful experience and I hope I've managed to capture some of it here. Happy viewing guys
Thanks fella
Fortunately, the road and hillside were already quite high relative to one side of the land, so I flew along to the escarpment which suddenly gave me a good 1,000 foot view, despite only being around 300 feet above high.
All the plains there are around 6,000 feet elevation; it's great in summer but pretty snowy in winter.
Absolutely great stuff! Still in the States or back home in London?
Cheers fella! Nice to hear! I'm in Moab at the moment having plenty of fun. Got a few more days yet....

I'm surprised at how well the GoPro captured the eclipse from the ground. Did you have any kind of filter on it?
No more surprised than me! I'd only had the Go Pro a few weeks; I simply put it on the ground pointing up and pressed record and left it. No filter and no post-production to that video. That literally is what it recorded.... Ian
Thanks Thor! This is the reason I bought the second Mavic after the first one's gimbal failed part way through my trip. I think it was worth it
