While it true you can adjust the length of the control stick to help smooth out and slow the YAW of the Phantom, I chose the hardware mod because I like where the sticks are. They just feel right for me on the shorter side.
The hardware mod uses 2 resistor and a toggle switch to slow the YAW. One of the added benifits of the hardware mod is it also acts as a throttle lock.
The Phantom's motors will not start if the YAW switch is in the slow position.
While you are suppose to have to use the CSC method to start the Phantom there have been some reports of Phantoms starting unexpectedly.  If you are using ground Station mode you also would have to put the Yaw switch in the Fast/Start position. I recently got into RC planes and helicopters after my wife bought me a Phantom and I have programed my controller to have a throttle off switch for all my aircraft. You can find the hardware mod
