Since the new Platinum is coming out soon, I personally sold my old MP and contemplating on buying the Platinum.  I had a chance to sell my MP(high mileage) this weekend at a good price and I jumped on it.  Spark is the only drone I have at the moment.

I bought just the drone. I never liked the car charger and the bag never really got used. I now have a nice case and 3 battery charger to use. The only thing that sucks is waiting for the batteries to become available, but I have a spark so I can live with 1 mavic battery for a bit.

Thinking of purchasing the same thing, just have to wait for batteries and props.

Nope.....taking a large depreciation hit to sell the MP then pay even more for a MPP?  Several hundred dollar hit for a small incremental upgrade.

Wouldn't retro-fitting the new propellors be more cost effective? I know that there's also the extra battery life --- and whilst a 10% increase in terms of battery is huge, is 3 minutes really a huge difference in real world flying? (Forgive me, I don't mean to sound off... It's a genuine question from me as a newbie to try and understand more and learn!)

Jury still out on this one. I saw a post where someone mentioned a different camera was with the MPP... don't know if this was speculation, wishful thinking or fact. That may be enough to make the switch worth it to me, but will wait and see what the true reality is. Will eventually order the new props regardless.

There is no word on the DJI website regarding any upgrade to the MPP camera over the MP camera. I'm sitting in the camp of changing the props to see if they really do offer any noticeable difference, this seems a reasonalbe cost upgrade if it does actually upgrade the drone ... if not I haven't wasted a grand!.  I cannot justify selling a 1 month old MP at a bargain basement price then throwing another grand on a slightly breathed on MP now known as the MPP.

For me the MPP is a shoe in upgrade while the real upgrade comes in several months time ..... It's like when car manufacturers release weirdly named promo models with a few extra things thrown in while they run out the old model. For me it's not worth paying out for ... what do we get? a slightly quieter flight on a drone thats not that loud to start with and 3 mins extra flight when I tend to bring mine back with 30 - 40 % battery life left anyway.

I totally agree.

This is the comment I was referring to earlier - #6

Will find out soon enough when the initial hands on reviews come.

Yes I saw that thread and went looking for the info on line and found nothing so I guess it's just bluff until DJI comment on it.

There's very little gain in performance between the 2,plus the props looks like really designed for the MP (chk the color).JK

Although I'm thinking of probably purchasing the MPP, I plan to keep the original MP. Later if I decide, I can always move one of them.

I think you'd be mad to sell your standard Mavic to "upgrade" to the platinum.

What are you getting really?

Slightly quieter operation and a paint job.

The new props fitted to the standard Mavic will give you some benefit, so the quieter operation is worth even less.

I really can't see how you're getting value out of it.

Exactly ... I don't see it as an 'upgrade' though. It's more a detour to the left.

It'll be props only for me. I read somewhere that some of the additional flight time is due to more efficient prop configuration. I am not going to sweat it for + or - a minute. According to the model comparison at DJI.com, the camera is the same on both MP and MPP.

not much incentive for me to upgrade and i am usually the one to get antsy and go and head and upgrade.  nothing really new or worth while for existing users, specially since i can buy the props.     for me the silver color, its very nice but my experience with silver color on plastic is over say 1 year that paint will start to wear off unevenly it will look terrible over time.. silver has a tendency to show blemishes in plastics a lot more then other colors..

gold and silver both the worst colors for something you will be flying around and handling alot in and out of bags where it will be rubbing up against sides of your bag a lot, and flying everyone makes mistakes time to time and may end up barely brushing some tree or a fence or something and over time blemishes will appear and it wont look as acceptable as other colors with same blemishes.

From just looking at the specs, there isn't any improvement in hardware, the camera is the same, sensor size, f/stop, gimbal, photo/video features all the same.

Personally for me It was a good decision to sell the old MP and Possibly purchase the MPP.  My MP had over 517 miles of flight distance on it and I figured for another $200 I will be getting a brand new Mavic.

As stated on the product page: There are three main differences. The Mavic Pro Platinum has an extended flight time of 30 minutes and an increased hover time of 27 minutes. It also has 4dB (60% noise power) aircraft noise reduction. Finally, the aircraft comes in a sleek platinum finish.

i get a mostly usable 1080P 60fps.. you have to realize however that 1080P 60fps on limited bit rate with limited res with so much detail thats a lot of task for even from decent cameras that are much larger.   better off if you go 4K down to 1080P or use 1080P 24/30

TBH, doesn't look as if the Platinum adds that much to the table, so will sit this upgrade out.

I definitely would sell my MP for just the ESC upgrade. It sounds like most people do not understand the enormous benefit of field oriented control over the PMSM. Besides the obvious efficiency improvements this control method allows for sensorless torque estimation, position estimation, and angular velocity control. This can mean future firmware upgrades to detect prop collision, precise motor speed control for better alt regulation...and many more.
