Hi.

What is the crop factor on the Osmo Pro in 4K? I am asking since on the GH4 it was around 2.3, but it seems that on the Osmo Pro the crop factor is actually WAY worse... can someone give me some info on this?

Cheers

Nope, not at all. Check by yourself. Compare the following

1. Photo in 16:9
Vs
2. Video in HD
Vs
3. Video in 4K.

You will see that only the Photo have a 2x crop factor.

I will make something tomorrow, but let's be clear for a minute.

1. The M43 has a 2x Crop factor VS the Standard = FF (Full Frame). Meaning that your X5, X5R or X5S like the Panasonic GH4 or GH5, for example, has the same 2x Crop Factor. Meaning that your 15mm is, in fact, a 30mm one. On my GH4/5 my 8-16 is, in fact, a 16 to 32 and my 12-35 is, in fact, a 24-70mm. Got it?

2. While most M43 camera (Photo cameras) are normally all equal when it comes to shoot Photos with a 2x Crop factor, shooting videos is a different beast and higher the resolution is higher the chance you have to get a higher crop factor and this for technical reasons (Power, Heat...). The X5 is roughly the equivalent to a GH4.  And while the GH4 had a 2x Crop factor on Photo and HD Video in 4K the crop factor was 2.3x. Meaning that your 15mm was, in fact, a 34.5mm.

3. I thought that the X5 had the same 2.3x crop factor as the GH4, but it seems that actually, it is a bit more than that, explaining my question... What is the official Crop factor on the X5 in HD and 4K.
Note : The GH5 comes now comes with a full readout of the sensor in 4K, meaning that the Crop factor is now 2x in 4K instead of 2.3x like on the GH4.

Take 30FPS for example,  the crop factor of 1920x1080 is 2x, 4096x2160 and 3840x2160 are 2.2x-2.3x.

Ah! Ok, so it is the same crop factor as the GH4... Interesting, coz I felt a little bit more squeezed in 4K with the 15mm on the Osmo than on the GH4.

BTW This is an important piece of information missing from your product description, people will expect to get the same "Frame" regardless you are in HD or 4K.

I found something very interesting this morning, the crop factor actually quite weird and not as advertised by @DJI Mindy... Will create a new post on this.

So here you are some samples.

I no longer have a GH4 or GX85 with me to compare but what I found interesting that in 1080p the crop factor is worse than in 4K. Simply put when you shooting video with a 15mm you actually have something alongside 35mm in 4K to 37mm equivalent in HD.

So even if you have no intention of publishing video in 4K, you are actually better of in 4K with a slightly wider image than in HD.
