Today i was flying at about 200 mtrs above a creek following the creekline and an eagle decided that i was intruding into its airspace came straight at the drone then at last second decided against it lol.
Just wondering how many others have had near misses with birds

Fairly frequently. A few weeks ago, around a dozen eagles started flying around my P4P, they came in close but made no attempt to hit it. They were soaring in thermals and I think they thought I had a thermal and were following me. We flew together for about 10 minutes.
Unfortunately the magpies are a real pest. They don't take any notice of the white P4P but they hate the dark Mavic and I have already had a blade nicked by an attacking magpie.

Take care of your flight, friend. Please choose another wide place and avoid the animals to fly if possible. How about the bird and your drone now? Is everything alright?

That's good to know Maggie's leave P4P alone, they have just started nesting here

I have actually flown close to several "buzzards", as we call them down south, and they seem scared.

I do have to admit it got my heart pumping a bit faster when i saw a bird that was easily twice the size of my p4p coming straight for it and theres not a damn thing you can do to stop it.

I believe it's all region dependable and what bird species are in charge there. More importantly, during what season you decided to invade their territory. Is it a mating season? Or feeding frenzy above school of sardines? Indeed, the colour and shape of your UAV is critical. I can't see any bird stupid enough to dive on Pumpkin ...
I fly my drones notoriously in eagle kingdoms and they never bother to come close. Two or three known cases of close encounter created a myth of drone killing predatorial instinct. Far from true. However, no general rule of engagement can be employed here. Some birds, seagulls in particular, may be very annoying when in numbers. We aren't welcomed there, that's one thing for sure ...

Naturally. You'll slap your neck when mosquito bites ... Would you do the same with an tarantula sitting there ?

I give them a great deal of respect and a wide birth, it's their domain and I'm just a tourist there.
I've seen the vid on YT that shows birds attacking Phantoms, and they don't hold back.  One vid shows a head on attack that brings the UAV down.

Yeah. Swallows and swifts here in Texas seem quite intrigued by the Phantom.

One tip I saw to escape birds is left stick forward hard.  Birds don't fly well straight up.
