She has been asking about one for a while. I really didn't believe she was serious until she mentioned it last week for about the 10th time. She'll have a pleasant surprise Wednesday evening. Yay, her!

When I fly either my wife or my grand-son usually go with me. The grand-son flies as much as I do, the wife has yet to ask - she's happy being my VO. I'd be happy to let her give it a try, but she says she has no interest in flying, thinks it's interesting to just watch it.

Just like Al Bundy (Married with Children show) when he bought Peg a bowling ball for her.

Mine helps me at longboarding events and she has apparently caught the flight bug in the process.

That's what my mother-in-law asked! I am sure. I have had 3 Phantoms and still want the Mavic. I wasn't so much interested in the Spark. The wife wanted the Mavic too until the Spark came out. She says the Spark is "cute" and she prefers the smaller size compared to the Mavic.

My wife initially only watched me fly too. I wanted to include her so I asked her multiple times to try it for fun. She ultimately started volunteering to fly for fun and to film skate events. She's become an important part of our film crew. That makes us both happy.

Well, here is the good news and the bad news.

The good news: She loves the Spark. She tried it yesterday evening. We live in an area called "Windmill Farms". It's at the top of a hill and almost always windy. Yesterday, the trees in our back yard were bending significantly in the wind, but the Spark handled the wind like a champ. Also, the video footage from this little thing is quite impressive.

The bad news: I love the Spark too, DJI may have just lost a Mavic sale because I might get myself a Spark instead. SMH. The portability of this thing is ridiculous. Just a little shoulder bag compared to the hugh backpacks I have used for my Phantoms? You do the math. And I would definitely use this in Active Track to follow us on skate runs. in smaller spaces.

I thought I saw something that active track is limited to 100m range from Home Point, unless you reset the home point. I am not sure if there is another work around for this but I would be curious to know how it would work for the longer movement tracks people wish to capture.

If that is the case, that may be a limit only to the Spark, as Active Track on my P4P has tracked riders for a good half-mile or more, only limited to that distance because the run was only that long. I'll test with the wife's Spark or I'll look into this before purchasing another one. Thanks for the heads up.

I am reading that the max distance for Active Track from the home point is increased if we are using the RC (which we are).

So, we love the Spark but I wanted the extra features the Mavic offers too, so I grabbed one for myself today. Now, I don't have to lug around my "huge" Phantom case just to get the aerial shots!

I refuse to admit this is an addiction, but I am sure the high I get from “droning” is not much different from that of many illicit drugs.
