When you guys record video, what resolution and frame rate do you use?  I usually record 1080p at 30 frames per second.

I've recorded in several of the resolutions available. Using 4K at 25 FPS produces awesome results, but needs a pretty powerful graphics card in the PC to keep up with the data rate, or a 4K TV to view.  It's also great for frame grabbing still shots if required.  However, the resulting filesizes are enormous, and I've noticed that they're stored in 4Gb chunks on the SD card if a long recording is filmed - requiring stitching in editing afterwards.   For everyday viewing, and longer flights where continuous recording is necessary, I shoot in 1080 at 25 FPS and the results are perfectly satisfactory, both on the PC and the  TV.

4K at 60fps.  Sure it takes up monstrous space, but the sharpness of the flyby shots almost gives it a 3D effect.  Plus if I ever need to crop, it doesn't cut the shot down to a grainy image.

Aloha Wolf,

The flicker rate for the human eye is 24-25 frames per second.  So, for smoother video and sharp frame grabs, I shoot in 4K 30 FPS.  Some shoot in 4K 60 FPS because each frame is sharper and the probability of a sharp frame grab is better.

Each frame grabbed is like a 12 MB photo, amazing.  I archive my videos for that purpose.  Amazing technology.  But whether you shoot 1080p or 4K in 24 or 120 FPS, smooth stick handling will ultimately be the test.  With this technology, the viewers want to see everything they can, well at least I do.  If the video is rushed and you cannot make out the details being videoed it is frustrating,  well again, for me at least.

     Hope this helps!

Aloha and Drone On!

Just curious, does the MP also cut these shots to 4Gb parts?

Yes, it will cut the footage when it reaches 4GB, it is the logic of the storage.

4K 30 FPS - 3840x2160

I use Premiere Pro to edit using proxies. Rendering takes some time but the finished result is worth it.

Sounds a bit like Fat32 'limitation' to me.

I shoot 2.7 k 50fps  with ph4p. As this is good format to edit with in finalcut pro x. I use these clups in combination with go pro hero 5 ( also 2.7 k as go pro 4 k is very curved . I also have sony hd 1080p. So in order for editing the 2.7 k from to go pro and phantom is good to combine with 1080 p sony. If i use 4 k clips in combination 2.7/1080p it is a bit too much hazzle to use transitions and croping as 4 k screen is a bit bigger. The only exception i use 4 k , is if i have to film something from a distance and i want have a more close up from it, then i am able to crop it and it still has quality of 1080 ( 4 k is 4x1080). So 2.7 k has the same wideness screen as 1080
