There are a handful of ways to collect square hay bales. The first way is to throw them up one by one onto a trailer. The second way is to hire someone to throw them onto a trailer. The third way, however, is to use a hay stacker, which is far easier than the first two. Even if, as the second picture shows, it doesn't always stack them correctly.

Great pictures.  One of my first jobs was stacking hay.  Hard work.  Didn’t get rich eithe that’s for sure.  Got paid 5 cents a bale.....split between 3 other kids.  Of course that might have been a long time ago though.
