Made a short video at Como lake in Italy using vertigo effect. I like the way how camera stays still but mountains disappear behind the scene. Bellagio city looks like a toy city here

Thanks I apreciate it! I tried to fix on the city center and lower gimbal gradually. Sometimes it doesn't come so smooth, need more practice.

That's an excellent shot.... I get how you shot the town, but not so clear on how the mountains are panning out; did you start out with a crop in post-production and reduce the crop to give a panning out effect?

Vertigo effect just works this way. Objects in a distance collapse whe you fly toward object and expand when you fly from it. On wiki there is small video demo to show the behaviour of objects at different distance. In my video mountains on the background hide behind the city

I fully understand the concept; I'm just intrigued how the mountains are panning outwards both sides as you get closer to the town.  You would normally achieve that effect by moving a camera towards the subject whilst zooming out, but the Mavic doesn't have a zoom,....

Right, I added zoom in post-production in Adobe Premiere. I shoot in 4k, so if you zoom 150% and downscale video to full HD it looks good. An eagle eye can see some artifacts anyway.

I am planing to visit Como in a couple of days . How are  rules for flying drone there? Any advise ?

There is a picture to describe rules it Italy. Regulation are quite strict, especially in city drone must be away from people and historic buildings. However it is OK to fly over lake.

Editing for vertigo is not complicated. However the outcome is stunning!

I'm still yet to try it but hope to get round to it soon
