DJI has something new to show us on 4/8 and five days later 3DR has a new system that they are marketing as a 2001: A Space Odyssey Monolith for drones

Yes the new phantom 3 and a second drone from  DJI.

I was out last week with my inspire and while I was flying I heard another sound. Another quad in the distance. I tracked the pilot down and he was testing a prototype 3DR product. He could not give me any details on what it is but it looked slightly bigger than the iris+. I didn't take any pictures, but he assured me it would be coming out soon. This may be what they will release. No doubt with NAB coming up next week we will be seeing a lot of new quad related products very soon.

I think I'm turning into a snob but if anyone releases a new drone that doesn't offer an ability to get the #*&@!#!) landing gear out of the way, it's useless.  That's the #1 liberating quality of the Inspire over my Phantom 2 w/H3+3D gimbal.

That was the first thing I looked at for the 3DR.  It looks like it is static landing gear.

I wonder if they won't announce  new camera availability for the Inspire along with a Phantom 3?  I've noticed Eric Cheng posting some images from a spherical camera recently and the promo seems like it is more visual related.....
Less than 24 hours and we will all find out...

If you are looking at it through the Darwin school of evalution then yes 3DR is calling possible customers primates and they need this UAV to evolve.  Wow, talk about insulting.
The video is cool though, especially the baboon with the controller.{:2_31:}

For me it's not the Phantom's landing gear that gets in the way, it's the propellers. They often show up in the videos. If the new Phantom fixes that and has 4K video, it may become my primary aircraft. I love the Inspire, but it requires a lot of setup and teardown to fly. The convenience of the Phantom is great. Pull it out of the case, turn it on and it's ready to fly. Hopefully the new one will continue in that tradition.

Windy day, down pointing camera and landing gear don't mix!
