I was not aware that a new firmware release was announced.  The most recent release is back in August.  Is this new equipment?  It's possible your spark is already on the latest.

.700 is due hopefully soon , dji don’t give dates for F/W release I’m sure it’s security reasons.

People thought that .700 was coming on 28 September but it never did. .600 from 21 August remains the latest version for IOS users. Keep an eye on the announcement page on here as DJI will advise when .700 is ready on that. It could be out later today or it could be 2018 - I'm sure it'll be sometime this month though.

Yes but if it might come out soon or as you are saying 2018 why already updating and mention in the dji app 4 , that dynamic home return is only possible with update .700. I think the more obvious thing for dji is to do is first fw update for spark and than update dji go app. Now we are only been treated with a dead fish

DJI is a joke on the .0700, and have features on DJI app that is not supported by the current firmware is a joke. I guess, maybe 2 things happened, 1) They have the .0700 firmware ready but they found so many bugs, that they are unable to fix so far 2) The feature on the DJI app was just a bait, and who knows they actually will support.

Yes last F/W was introduced first then app, and low and behold everyone complaining that F/W came first . So you just can’t please everyone all the Time. It is coming complaining about it won’t make it come quicker, and I’m sure you would prefer it to be working correctly.

The new features mentioned in  the DJI GO app description were implemented and released in the Mavic firmware release from two weeks ago.

From a software standpoint it’s done like this because the features are likely using the same kernel in the control software so if they’re all updated at once in the control app it’s easier to do. The firmware that supports those features is a different story - I think it’s because they’re squashing bugs in the Spark FW. I’d rather them have it done right and take their time, than to have them rush it and brick our drones.

They could have easily left off the mention of the firmware in the release notes. More than likely they were planning to release it soon after the software update, and like you said, found some bugs they needed to squash.

Ah ok.  I understand the source of the question.

I've been a critique of DJI's communication choices and announcement choices.  I like their drones, but the way that they choose to communicate to their customers can be frustrating.

Others have noted the hypothetical reasons why information of .700 came out before .700 came out, and why DJI may be delaying .700.

First off, you are fine on .600.  You aren't missing anything that others have.  We are all waiting.

I choose not to be frustrated with a slower than hoped for pace of firmware updates.  In my mind, any extra time spent on making sure the release is reasonably free of critical defects is reasonable.  The development cost of quantity/quality will never have a perfect answer.  I can live with that.  Just make sure that my drone doesn't drop or fly away (unless I make it do so).

I also think they are fixing some bug they just discovered. Hopefully it is the flyaway bug (if caused by software)

I think if anything, the .700 firmware is being held up by the continued testing of the DJI Go4 4.1.10 update. We have to remember the Go4 app services other aircraft, not just the spark.

Yes, the software is indeed complex, and as you say it supports multiple craft.  If the delays are due to careful testing and bug fixing, that's a good thing.  Sure I want NOW.  Who doesn't?  But I also don't want to be a sad faced person hovering over the carcass of my dead spark.  So I'm happy for them to take their time and do things right.

BTW Charles, can you see I've added another symbol under my name? I went ahead and took the dive. It's, well, pretty sweet. It would take some practice to fly it off a boat though. Spark in Beast mode.

I am really Really REALLY interested in your Mavic Pro experience.  That's my next possible drone.  I look forward to you sharing your experiences!

I will be sure to. This is my weekend to fly, weather's finally going my way, and I have the time. Going to take the Spark out over water (a river) for the first time, which for me is a big step. I've been very careful with it so far. I just need some flight time with the Mavic, but my learning curve with it won't be too bad thanks to the Spark. They are the same in some ways.

Hi to all. One of reasons of such delay in releasing new FW might be writing some code from scartch. We had one or two suspicious reports of falling out of sky and more reports of such known as "fly away" (in fact might be only user error ) on latest 600 FW. I admire their delay if they write some codes from scratch to ensure that these problems are addressed correctly. Also may be some code added to auto calibrate compass and using VPS in some situations to cover compass/Yaw errors that currently ends to Atti mode or the thing we know as "fly away".  Thanks a lot DJI. You are doing the best.

Honestly, I'd MUCH rather they spend their time working on a fully functional Android GO4 app, then a new firmware.  This constant crashing on Android and NOT iOS is getting stupid.  Every version they release gets worse and worse. Adding security to the app doesn't solve the crashing issues.

Can't believe I actually have to go buy a $200+ iDevice, JUST to be able to fly without the app crashing every couple minutes.

I'd help fix it, but DJIs severe lack of GPL compliance isn't helping.

I honestly think they need actual Android developers dedicated to the Android app to get it working properly.
