Some time ago I read somewhere that the propellers on the new Phantom ( which one I don't know ) were redesigned to make less noise. Anybody tried it out yet? Can I mount them on my Phantom 4?

If you replace the word Phantom with Mavic, you remember correctly. There's a "new" Mavic in a different colored shell, it has props that is less noisy. New noise-free props for Phantom can only be dreamed so far.

Regards Leif.

The title is misleading, there is no such thing as a silent propeller.

Mavic now sounds like a Prius, Phantom still sounds like a Porsche.

New Mavic props are slightly longer. Not sure if there is room to make the Phantom props much longer also?

Mavic props spin a lot slower too.
That's why they are quieter.

Oh I see, it's only for the Mavic, thx.

It would be nice if the Phantom 4 would make less noise. I sometimes hear it when I'm at 500m altitude ...

Wow, how often are you 500m above your your p4, and how?

500m above ground level?  That's pretty high.... (in the US that's a bit too high)  I can't hear mine if it's 80m right overhead... But I agree it's loud

When my aircraft's propellers are not mounted and rotating, then they are VERY silent...

I wonder what would happen if the UAV propellers had some sort of winglets on the tips... would it improve lift, reduce noise, etc?

Winglets on wings help because they increase the volume of air on which the wing can act. Increasing the wingspan would actually be more efficient but is often not possible. The aspect ratio of a wing is also a factor, thin aspect ratios like those that propellers mostly have gives little advantage. Larger diameter slower rotating propellers would reduce sound significantly, but this means a larger drone. Lots of compromises, check out some of the aerodynamic forums about. One further option is the use of ducted fan type systems. Again, the experts are many and varied, I am sure drone manufacturers are aware of the options.

Check out the web and youTube for replacement propellers, there are several but I have not found many convincing arguments.

It depends on the drone status in your heart. Actually, I do not find proper metaphor as I do not know much of car. Do you have any good ideas?

I've not heard an Inspire, but the looks remind me of the Ariel Atom:

Larger diameter propellers also have a greater tip speed than their smaller counterparts given the same RPM. When the tip speed reaches near supersonic levels is when the noise becomes very loud and that's when a propeller becomes inefficient too. Winglets basically take wing tip vortices and turns that into lift without gaining parasitic drag which in turn makes the wing more efficient so yes, in a sense they effectively increase the span of the wing too. I don't know how winglets would work on a propeller or rotary wing. I think we would have seen it by now unless I've just missed it.

There are indeed propellers with “tips” on the market for drones and for commercial aircraft. In many cases there are advantages and the experts argue each situation exhaustively. But quite often the expert arguments tend to sound more like a discussion about whether strawberry or blackberry jam tastes better.

At the end of the day is the extra cost of design and manufacture commercially sensible?

The following illustration seams to prove that dji have thought about the problems.

Other people are offering alternatives like this 3 bladed propeller for the p3, basically more lift, slower speed, less noise. (Not my argument and in no way a recommendation)

Or this enterprising design from someone, hopefully with a 3D printer.
