I belong to a horse camping club named Los Viajeros (Spanish for "The Travelers"). Each month we go to some scenic place to explore trails atop our mounts. This video covers our last multi-day excursion in 2017 - The Skyline Wilderness in Napa, California.
If you've been following the fires in the Napa area, the campground in this story was affected. We left there at 2:00pm Sunday and there was no fire in the area at all. By that evening, the fires were spreading hard and fast and this campground was evacuated. It's still closed today, all the trails that we rode on during the weekend are now closed. Really bad up there.
Thanks for that last update. I was about to ask how much of it was left now. I have a friend east of Windsor that I've been trying to reach. So far, nothing heard. From the fire map overlays, it appears he was right in it. Good luck. As you know, it's a mess.
Today is Wednesday, 3 days after I made the original video. I live in San Jose, about 100 miles south of all the fires here in Northern California. The smoke is quite thick here today, so I sent my Mavic up to an altitude of 200 feet and just rotated around so you can see how bad the visibility is here - even at this distance from the fires. While shooting the video, my eyes were burning.
So cool!
I've been currenly looking for dog friendly camping sites, that allow horses and are extremely friendly. It would be great if there were some pretty places to ride around to.
